Assistant Professor, Doctor of Education Program

Education Department

Laura Stermer

Dr. Laura Stermer joined the 花椒直播 as an assistant professor for the Doctor in Education Program in July 2022.

She earned her Bachelor of Science in Music Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1995 and her Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration from Appalachian State University in 1996. She attended Kansas State University and earned a graduate certificate in Academic Advising in August 2017 and her Doctor of Philosophy in Adult Learning and Leadership in May 2018.

Dr. Stermer and her family served the U.S. Army for over 20 years until her husband retired at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Assignments included: Fort Benning, Georgia (twice); Fort Hood, Texas (twice); Fort Wainwright, Alaska, Fort Carson, Colorado; U.S. Embassy in Cairo, Egypt, and Fort Leavenworth, Kansas (twice). They have three children, Savannah, Melanie, and Jeremy Jr. The suburban is filled with soccer balls and cleats for all three kids, cheer poms and jazz shoes, first aid kit, probably a stray baseball or football, and definitely sunscreen and bug spray.

She previously worked for Central Michigan University as an assistant director of enrollment at Fort Leavenworth, KS. She worked directly with Army University, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College (in-resident, distance learning, satellite, and TASS-reserves transfer agreements), and Army Management Staff College. She directed both the CMU Fort Riley and CMU Fort Leavenworth centers in 2021-2022 and managed students from inquiry to graduation in their 12-state online region (Arkansas, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming). She has earned Master Trainer status for U.S. Girl Scouts and Army Family Team Building, and currently volunteers as Treasurer for the Leavenworth Soccer Association, a nonprofit serving soccer in the local community at the recreational and competitive levels.
