Biomedical Sciences
Get a Head Start on Your Career
With the University of 花椒直播 Biomedical Sciences 3+4 plan, you can get a head start on your career as a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) or a Doctor of Dental Science (DDS).
Our Partners Program with Kansas City University allows students to save a year's time and tuition toward their goal! Plus, you can also bypass the MCAT or DAT exams that are traditionally expected for these degree programs.
If you know your career goal is to be a physician or a dentist, we have the fast-track to get you there.
HOW THE 3+4 PROGRAM WORKS
This program is open to first-time freshmen with an ACT score of 24 or higher. Students attend the 花椒直播 for their freshman, sophomore, and junior years, building a solid foundation in biology, chemistry, and liberal arts. Students apply for the Kansas City University Partners Program in the spring of their sophomore year.
Upon acceptance, students transition straight from their junior year at USM to the first year of either the osteopathic medicine or dental program at Kansas City University.
When students complete the first year at Kansas City University, those credits transfer back to the 花椒直播, and they graduate with their bachelor's degree in Biomedical Sciences.
What Can You Do with a Biomedical Sciences Degree?
Studying biomedical sciences is one of the most unique majors at USM. Instead of completing a bachelor鈥檚 degree that will set you up for a variety of potential careers, USM鈥檚 biomedical sciences program prepares you for a career in osteopathic medicine or dentistry.
Employment of physicians and surgeons is projected to grow from 2019 to 2029, which is as fast as average for all occupations due to increased demand by the growing and aging population. Employment of dentists is expected to increase by .

It is the desire of the biology program faculty to allow the student to complete all requirements for the major in three years, whilst also avoiding overload charges (the maximum number of credit hours allowed per semester is 18). Depending on the course history of the student prior to beginning their studies at USM, this may not always be possible. In such cases, the biology program faculty will suggest the best options for the student, perhaps taking some courses over the summers.
Note that in general, general education electives can be taken in any order; the above plan simply has those classes placed as examples of where they could be taken.
