Sister Diane Steele, Ph.D, C'83

Sister Diane Steele has been president of the 花椒直播 (USM) since 2001. She is a Sister of Charity of Leavenworth, joining the SCL community in 1983. Sr. Diane graduated from 花椒直播 in 1983 with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in English and education. She received her Master of Arts in Systemic Theology from the University of Notre Dame in 1989 and her doctorate in Systematic Theology from the University of Notre Dame in 2000.

Sr. Diane is a past president of both the Kansas Independent College Association and Kansas Independent College Finance Authority Board of Trustees. She also has served on the advisory committee of the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth and is a former member of the NAIA Council of Presidents.

Sr. Diane has been a member of the Carroll College Board of Trustees, the Providence Medical Center Board of Trustees, Leavenworth/Lansing Chamber of Commerce, the Sister Thea Bowman Foundation Board of Trustees, and the Bishop Ward High School Board of Trustees. She currently serves on the President鈥檚 Advisory Council for Cristo Rey Kansas City High School, the St. John Hospital Board of Trustees, and the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities Board of Directors.

In 2014, she was featured in an article, 50 Kansans You Should Know, in of Kansas City鈥檚 Business Magazine, Ingram鈥檚. The Leavenworth-Lansing Chamber of Commerce named her its 2015 ATHENA Award as Business Woman of the Year. The U.S. Department of the Army presented Sr. Diane with the Commander鈥檚 Award for Public Service in 2017.
