(Leavenworth, Kan.)—»¨½·Ö±²¥ Head Athletic Trainer Raeann Bromert has been named Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) Athletic Trainer of the Year. Bromert will be formally recognized at the Sport Management Conference on Aug. 7 at Bethany College.

Bromert is starting her ninth year at »¨½·Ö±²¥. During her time at USM, Bromert has established herself as a leader in the KCAC, communicating and connecting with all of the other athletic trainers in the conference. She has initiated multiple information gathering initiatives among KCAC ATs to help inform and equip them to advocate with their administrations.

This year, she developed her staff and prepared them with the necessary tools to self-direct during her maternity leave this winter. She returned to work, setting an example of balancing family and work. Upon her official return, she re-established herself as a trusted advisor to her administration and in being a key part of a growing USM athletic department.

Bromert's staff size has increased from two to six athletic trainers with a mix of full time and graduate assistants. Men's and Women's Lacrosse and Men's and Women's Wrestling have been added, as well as Men's and Women's Swimming this year. These sport additions have been well researched and prepared for by Bromert, and she has even taken on primary coverage for Wrestling and provided consistent and dependable coverage for the KCAC Lacrosse tournaments.

"Raeann leads her staff by example and this example has also led her to have strong relationships within her athletic department and the KCAC," said Ottawa head athletic trainer, Jennifer Raybern. "I, personally, take every opportunity I have to connect with her in person when traveling to »¨½·Ö±²¥, as I know that I will leave campus feeling challenged and encouraged professionally, and feeling balanced."

Bromert was recently selected as one of four ATs nationwide by Drug Free Sport to receive their $1000 Continuing Education Award. This award was given to honor the "selfless work she does ensuring the health and safety of her student-athletes". She has been a member of all recent KCAC Site Visit teams assessing potential members and providing valuable feedback on their Athletic Training services and the comparability to the standards established in the KCAC. The respect she has earned over her time at »¨½·Ö±²¥ from her athletic director and president says a lot about her professionalism and commitment to her student-athletes and co-workers.
