5 Teammates Earn All-Academic Honors for Excellence and Focus in the Classroom
(Leavenworth, Kan.)鈥擳ony Weber of the 花椒直播 Men's Track & Field team was honored with the prestigious distinction of Scholar Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Alongside just three other male student-athletes from across the country, Weber earned the honor for his perfect performance in the classroom and top-notch abilities on the track.
Weber, an accounting major, graduated this May with a 4.00 GPA. The Leavenworth, Kan. native took the NAIA marathon title this year with a time of 2:35:04.47鈥攏early three minutes ahead of teammate Christian Graham. Weber also doubled back in the 10,000, an event he placed second in.
"Tony is a phenomenal athlete and student," said Head Coach Alstin Benton. "He always came to practice ready to improve, and he epitomizes what it means to be a teammate. Tony is the kind of talent every coach wants more of鈥攅xtremely bright, dedicated to the sport, and determined to get better."
Including the four Scholar Athletes of the Year, a total of 89 men earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors during the 2017-18 track & field seasons. Five fellow Spires, alongside Weber, were also honored as USTFCCCA All-Academic Individuals.
