7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17 | Xavier Theatre | Free Admission

(Leavenworth, Kan.)—The »¨½·Ö±²¥ will host historian and Fulbright scholar Dr. Gerald R. Butters, Jr. for the 22nd annual Lincoln Event, "Lincoln on Film" at 7 p.m. Feb. 17.

The program will be in Xavier Theatre on USM's main campus in Leavenworth, 4100 S. 4th Street. Admission is free, and seating is limited. A reception will follow. Visit stmary.edu/Lincoln for more information.

Butters' presentation will explore how Abraham Lincoln is represented in major motion pictures, with a special emphasis on film origins. While the time period of a film reflects how Lincoln is depicted, Butters argues the collaborative team behind the camera is the most prominent force in shaping how Lincoln is portrayed.

"The »¨½·Ö±²¥ is thrilled to host its annual Lincoln Event," Vice President of Keleher Learning Commons and Student Development Danielle Dion said. "We are honored to have Dr. Butters, a well-respected historian whose research focuses on the intersection of race and gender in American pop culture. He offers an incredibly unique perspective – one revealing of how directors and screenwriters can influence our view of historical figures."

Lincoln Event attendees will also be able to view pieces from USM's extensive Bernard H. Hall Lincoln Collection, including a rare original copy of the 13th Amendment signed by President Lincoln.
