(Leavenworth, Kan.)—The »¨½·Ö±²¥ will celebrate Health Information Professionals Week March 23-27 with a series of telecast events. In coordination with HIP Week's national theme – Connecting People, Systems, and Ideas – the events will highlight the unique skills, abilities, experiences, and actions at the heart of the health information profession.
Due to concerns surrounding COVID-19, USM created a fully virtual experience and will no longer host in-person events during HIP Week.
"Our goal with HIP Week is to raise awareness and celebrate the health information management profession," Assistant Professor of Health Information Management April Boyd-Noronha said. "By sharing our ideas and experiences, we hope health information professionals and students can lead the way in improving health through trusted information."
During HIP Week, students are encouraged to participate in technology challenges and virtual lunch-n-learns. The remote events are:
HIM Technology Challenge #1, March 23-27
The challenge is in partnership with Patientory, Inc. – a medical app that incorporates
blockchain and cryptocurrency. Students will review a case study from Patientory and
then prepare a presentation on improvements for the app.
HIM "Emerging Trend" Tech Challenge #2, March 23-27
The challenge is in partnership with Diversity Telehealth, LLC, a Kansas City-based
business that offers telemedicine services. Students will review the new SureShow
app and then prepare a presentation on improvements for the app.

Join us for a discussion on "Emerging Trends in HIM - Telehealth" from 11 a.m.-1:30
p.m. The speaker is Dr. Shelley Cooper, CEO of Diversity Health, LLC. Dr. Cooper is
a 1998 alumna of »¨½·Ö±²¥.
Virtual Lunch-n-Learn | March 26
Join us for a discussion on "HIM & Technology" from noon-1 p.m. The speakers are DeAngela
Burns-Wallace, Secretary of Kansas Department of Administration, Chief Information
Technology Office; and Elizabeth "Lou" Saadi, State Registrar and Director, Bureau
of Epidemiology and Public Health Informatics.
