(Leavenworth, Kan.)—»¨½·Ö±²¥ President Sister Diane Steele announced the promotion of Bruce Peddie as head baseball coach on April 23.

Peddie spent the 2019 and 2020 seasons as the assistant coach under Rob Miller. Miller served as USM's head baseball coach for 18 years, and he has directed the athletics department since 2006. Miller will continue his duties as the vice president of athletics.

Peddie got his start in coaching at his alma mater, Mansfield University in Mansfield, Penn., in 1989 as an assistant coach. He went to Shippensburg University to serve as the head baseball coach in 1995 before becoming the associate head coach at the University of New Orleans in 2006.

In 2009, Peddie was promoted to head baseball coach at the University of New Orleans. He served in that role until 2013 when he left for the University of Louisiana at Monroe to become the head coach. Peddie then moved on to the University of Kansas in 2018, where he was the director of player personnel.

"I am excited about having the opportunity to be a part of our students' education here at the »¨½·Ö±²¥," Peddie said. "It's going to be priority number one to help our players find balance in their lives. I want to help them help themselves through the fundamentals of baseball.

"The baseball field, and this program, will be another classroom here at the university. An opportunity to live up to our core values. And, I am ready to lead that charge. Coach Miller has left this program in a place where I believe it is ready to be successful."

As VP of athletics, Miller will continue to focus on the growth and improvement of USM's sports programs.

"Under Rob's guidance, the department has grown to over 21 sports, earned multiple conference championships, and had national-qualifying teams," President Steele said. "And, just as important, the university has consistently been named a Five-Star Champions of Character institution by the NAIA under his leadership."
