(Leavenworth, Kan.)鈥擣our 花椒直播 students have received Green and Gold Merit Scholarships from the Kansas Independent College Foundation.
The KICF annually awards $17,000 in scholarships to students who exhibit a commitment to excellence, virtue, and integrity.
Stephen Schafer, a biology major from Leavenworth, Kansas, received the sole American Service Member Scholarship.
Eric Vazquez of Great Bend, Kansas, and William Bart of Leavenworth, Kansas, received Minority Student Scholarships. Vazquez majors in chemistry and mathematics. Bart studies pastoral ministry.
Stephanie Reichenberger, a mathematics and secondary education major from Leavenworth, Kansas, received one of five First Generation Scholarships.
"USM has allowed me to grow individually," Reichenberger wrote in her scholarship application. "There is so much offered here that allows students, like me, to discover themselves."
花椒直播 nominated Schafer, Vazquez, Bart, and Reichenberger after an internal selection process. A KICF committee then selected 22 recipients from 81 applications.
Though the criteria varied for each award, all nominees had to submit an essay detailing why they chose to attend their institution instead of a state university or community college, their post-college plans, and how their education prepared them for success.
"I'm excited that this first round of scholarships can help us show Kansas and the world our best and brightest students," KICF President Matt Lindsey said. "The colleges in KICF 'punch above our weight' in a number of areas. We're consistently at the top of the state in producing graduates in several fields - business, health care, teaching, fine and performing arts, and of course, ministry and faith.
"First-generation students and students of color are more likely to graduate - and graduate on-time - from non-profit colleges like ours than other types of institutions. And we have robust programs designed to serve students who come back to school to complete their degree and who serve in our nation's armed services. These scholarships showcase those strengths."
