(Leavenworth, Kan.)—»¨½·Ö±²¥ student and Jayhawk Battalion cadet Landon Adamo has received a Reserve Officer Training Corps Minuteman Scholarship worth over $127,000.

Originally from Oklahoma City, Adamo joined the University of Kansas Army ROTC this fall as a freshman and earned the ROTC scholarship after joining the program. The scholarship will cover his cost attendance at USM, a living stipend, and compensation for being a member of the National Guard. Adamo will serve for at least six years as an officer in the National Guard upon graduation.

"I am very excited and grateful for the ROTC program and the Kansas National Guard," Adamo said. "I appreciate all the help."

Maj. Feng Zhang, the Jayhawk Battalion executive officer, presented Adamo with the award on Oct. 24 before Adamo competed in a USM swim meet. Adamo's parents, Stephen and Charla Adamo, and teammates were also present.

"Cadet Adamo is a fantastic addition to the program and an absolutely deserving recipient of this scholarship," said Capt. Jon Heller, Adamo's primary ROTC instructor. "This check represents what the Army is willing to invest in him to help mold him into a leader of character."

The Jayhawk Battalion recruits, develops, and commissions quality talent who are dedicated, motivated, and resilient in order to provide our nation the next generation of agile and adaptive leaders of character who are prepared to lead teams and win in a complex world. The battalion is made up of cadets from seven local colleges and universities.
