(Leavenworth, Kan.)—The »¨½·Ö±²¥ Journalism and Communications Club (JCOM) has announced its Second Annual Christian Yanos Excellence in Photojournalism Contest and Award Ceremony.

Christian Yanos was a digital communications major and football player at »¨½·Ö±²¥ when he passed away in 2018. JCOM established the contest to commemorate Yanos and the work he was unable to finish.

JCOM and the USM Art Department will host a reception and awards presentation on April 27 from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Xavier Hall Goppert Gallery on USM's Main Campus in Leavenworth – 4100 South 4th Street.

USM communications students are encouraged to enter the contest and have their work featured in either the News or Sports categories.

Three judges will select the best work in each category and award the 2021-22 USM Photo of the Year. The judges are Professor Sister Rosemary Kolich, Assistant Professor Lorie Paldino, and Therese Horvat, a semi-retired journalist, writer, and communicator. Awards will include gift cards and trophies for first and second-place finalists in each category.

The Communications Department will display the 2021-22 Photo of the Year on its Wall of Fame.
