(Leavenworth, Kan.)—The »¨½·Ö±²¥ ranks at No. 43 on the 2022-2023 Social Mobility – Regional University Midwest list by U.S. News & World Report. The  highlights how well universities have graduated students who receive federal Pell Grants.

Students receiving these grants typically come from households whose family incomes are less than $50,000 annually, with most money going to students with total family incomes below $20,000.

"Economically disadvantaged students are less likely than others to finish college, even when controlling for other characteristics," U.S. News & World Report wrote. "But some colleges are more successful than others at advancing social mobility by enrolling and graduating large proportions of disadvantaged students awarded with Pell Grants. The vast majority of these federal grants are awarded to students whose adjusted gross family incomes are under $50,000."

USM has long served a significant number of Pell Grant-eligible students, including 43 percent of the class considered for this ranking.
