(Leavenworth, Kan.) 鈥 花椒直播 students became national champions at the 2023 Collegiate National Leadership Conference of Future Business Leaders of America, Inc.

FBLA President Charley Monahan, Vice President Justin Johnston, and Secretary Levi Jukes earned a first place in the Chapter Community Service Project competition. The chapter鈥檚 community service initiative 鈥 Project Purple 鈥 included a partnership with the Deeper Window Association, an organization in Leavenworth for families with Alzheimer's and dementia diagnoses. USM students attended meetings and events with the Deeper Window Association, raised awareness for Alzheimer鈥檚 and dementia, and developed the association鈥檚 website.

鈥淧roject Purple holds a special place in the hearts of many of our chapter members who had experienced Alzheimer's and dementia within their own families,鈥 said Bethany Stanley, assistant professor of economics and marketing, USM FBLA advisor, and Kansas FBLA Advisor of the Year. 鈥淲hen the students learned about the Deeper Window organization and its mission, our chapter was excited to have the opportunity to work with such a fantastic group of individuals who filled a huge need within our community.鈥

Members who were also instrumental in Project Purple include Chapter Treasurer Sandra Ramirez of Lansing, Kansas, and Members Drake Duncan of Easton, Kansas, and Torrey White of Sacramento, California.

"We are incredibly grateful for the connections our chapter made with the community members through this project and are proud that we could be a small part of this great organization pushing to help those in Leavenworth County with Alzheimer鈥檚 and dementia and their wonderful families and caregivers,鈥 Johnston said. 鈥淭hese people are still competent members of society and deserve to be treated as such.鈥

This year marks the third time USM FBLA has advanced to the national conference to represent the State of Kansas and the 花椒直播. The chapter placed sixth in 2022 for its community service project with the Leavenworth County Humane Society.

FBLA hosted the 2023 national leadership conference June 22-25 in Atlanta, Georgia. More than 800 college students and educators gathered to compete in dozens of competitive events. Students also had the opportunity to engage in learning workshops, network with alumni, and meet with potential employers.
