(Leavenworth, Kan.) 鈥� The 花椒直播 has received a nearly $2 million grant from the National Science Foundation for a STEM student scholarship program.
Through the grant, USM will provide 21 academically talented students with financial need an annual $15,000 scholarship. Students will also benefit from faculty-supervised research opportunities, GRE test prep, a living/learning community, and additional experiential learning activities.
The program 鈥� named Aspire to Succeed 鈥� will accept seven students per year from 2025-2027. The application for first-time freshmen planning to start in fall 2025 is now open at https://stmary.edu/stem.
鈥淲e are excited to offer the Aspire to Succeed program to students interested in STEM careers,鈥� said Dr. Rick Silvey, the interim division chair for the Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. 鈥淭hroughout their undergraduate studies at 花椒直播, STEM students will receive the 1-on-1 attention that is often lacking at larger schools. The Aspire to Succeed program will truly prepare gifted undergraduates for STEM careers and graduate school.鈥�
The Aspire to Succeed program also provides:
  • Peer-led study sessions
  • A monthly lecture series featuring STEM speakers
  • STEM-related field trips
  • Participation in professional conferences
  • Internship opportunities
USM previously offered the Aspire to Succeed program from 2015-2020 with funding from the National Science Foundation. During that time, the program helped 17 students graduate from the mathematics, chemistry, or biology programs.
