Bachelor of Science in Nursing - Accelerated Track
- If you're passionate about nursing and willing to dedicate a year of your time to
your education, the accelerated track can be a highly-rewarding path.
- Candidates should be highly motivated, as you'll basically be finishing two years of schooling in just 12 months.
- Candidates are also expected to have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on all prior college coursework.
USM accepts applications for the Accelerated BSN program on NursingCAS. The application cycle is now open, and the nursing admission committee offers rolling admissions until June 1st. The admission committee will continue reviewing late applications if space is available.
Yes, we accept A&P together or separately. All Anatomy and Physiology courses must have included a lab component. If you look A&P I only, you must also take A&P II or physiology with a lab. A comprehensive A&P course must meet the 4-5 credit hour requirement. Survey courses will not be accepted.
Yes, but proof of degree earned must be sent immediately upon graduation in May. Your acceptance will be conditional pending a final transcript and degree confirmation. Students graduating in the summer are not eligible to apply to that year鈥檚 Summer II start date in late June.
The Accelerated BSN program begins every Summer II. Visit USM's Academic Calendar for this year's Summer II start date.
The program is 12 months. Students start in Summer II and finish in the Summer I term of the following year.
The TEAS is offered at USM from October to July. Once you have created an account and started your application through NursingCAS, you may email nursing@stmary.edu to schedule a time to take the TEAS or . There is a $85 fee due at the time you take the TEAS that is payable by check or credit card.
The program is 57 credit hours of courses and 774 hours of clinical/laboratory experience in just 12 months. Students should expect to be doing school-related tasks Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. These tasks can include classes, clinicals, and labs. Clinical work times will depend on the hospital and unit the student is assigned to; there may be nights, weekends, and 12-hour shifts.
The Nursing Admission Committee will meet to review all completed NursingCAS application packets. Students who have the required prerequisites and GPA will be considered. The committee will make decisions based on the overall GPA, prerequisite courses GPA, the application and personal statement, other documents like a resume (be sure to include any health care, volunteer, or leadership work that you have done), and two reference letters. All applicants will be notified of the committee's decision by email.
Students prepare for the NCLEX-RN licensing exam as part of the BSN curriculum. You must pass the exam to be a licensed RN. Graduation from the program does not guarantee licensure.
